What We Ache For is about that aspect of life which consistently offers me a strange joy and deep contentment: creative work. It offers reflections on and practical ways to cultivate creative expression in your life without separating it from your experience of both the sacred and the sensual. Although the principles and practices outlined in the book apply to different forms of creative expression- composing, painting, sculpting, photography- because my primary creative work is writing, it includes a number of writing exercises to get the creative juices flowing. In addition I wrote and offer here twelve more writing exercises I hope will help get your hand moving on the page. Just download the pdf files and start writing.
My dear friend and webmaster, Peter Marmorek, has set up an on-line writers' community that uses some of the ideas presented in What We Ache For. To see if it might be a fit for you and to check out the details go to The Writers' Croft.
